About the Twin Cities Recorder Guild (TCRG)

The Twin Cities Recorder Guild (TCRG), based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, is a chapter of the American Recorder Society. It is a non-profit organization with the goal of supporting and encouraging recorder playing in our community. We provide opportunities for members to play together and to learn more about recorder playing, and we share recorder and early music with the community through performances, workshops, and a newsletter.

We have monthly meetings  (September - May) for recorder players of all ages and levels; they include group playing, a presentation by our music director or guest, socializing, and an opportunity to buy music and instruments. We meet at the same time and place as the North Star Viols and often share activities.

We produce a newsletter, maintain a lending library of recorder music & instruments, and sponsor recorder and early music workshops and performances.

SUMMER PLAYING OPPORTUNITIES

TCRG WEEKEND SUMMER PLAYING SESSIONS - 2009
For Recorders, Viola da Gambas, Crumhorns, Lutes, Shawms, Cornettos, Early Percussion, etc.

The usual format for the afternoon will consist of a playing session from 2 pm until 5 pm, with one or two breaks, followed by a potluck supper. Please make sure you call or e-mail the host when you intend to be at any of the sessions.

We would like you to bring not only your instruments, music stand, and potluck contribution, but also one or more items of music you would like the group to play. You will have the opportunity of leading the group for your items, but it is not mandatory - there will be others there quite happy to lead for your pieces. You should try to bring enough copies of the music for up to 12 players. We follow standard copyright rules, so the copies will belong to you.

Please contact Eric King-Smith (952-938-7109, e.and.r.king-smith@juno.com) with questions or for help arranging carpools.

SUMMER GROUPS

Five Tenor Concerto by Boismortier: By request we are having a quintet playing opportunity for the summer to learn the Boismortier Concerto for 5 Tenors. TCRG has this music and there are some who would like to concentrate on this piece over the summer. Three more tenors are needed. Email harbara08@comcast.net to find out more.

Other: If you are interested in a small group concentrating on pieces over the summer, contact the president. These groups might practice more often than once a month. Check back for more opportunities.

Join the celebration by attending the second ARS Festival and Conference in St. Louis, Missouri, from July 30 through August 2, 2009. For three days, the recorder community will come together at the beautiful south campus of the University of Missouri-St. Louis (UMSL) to celebrate the recorder with playing sessions, master classes, lectures, workshops, round table discussions, presentations, exhibits, recitals, and concerts.
