About Us:

About the Twin Cities Recorder Guild (TCRG)

The Twin Cities Recorder Guild (TCRG), based in Minneapolis-St. Paul, Minnesota, is a chapter of the American Recorder Society. It is a non-profit organization with the goal of supporting and encouraging recorder playing in our community. We provide opportunities for members to play together and to learn more about recorder playing, and we share recorder and early music with the community through performances, workshops, and a newsletter.

We have monthly meetings  (September - May) for recorder players of all ages and levels; they include group playing, a presentation by our music director or guest, socializing, and an opportunity to buy music and instruments. For summer playing opportunities, check with the president. Members occasionally organize sessions at various times over the summer. Ask for your name to be included on the notification list.

We produce a newsletter, maintain a lending library of recorder music & instruments, and sponsor recorder and early music workshops and performances.

Notice to school teachers: Members of TCRG are available to come to your school and demonstrate recorders of all sizes, answer questions, and play a variety of music in a recorder ensemble. Contact Barbara Aslakson (952-545-3178) or Jean Allison Olson.

Free Beginners' Group at every TCRG meeting!

The Beginners' Group is led by Jean Allison Olson and is open to anyone who is new to the recorder or wants to review skills or learn a different size recorder. Please tell us when you arrive if you want to take advantage of this opportunity. The group meets for about an hour during each meeting.

Small Group Formation

TCRG offers the opportunity to form small groups apart from the regular meetings.
If you are interested, send your choice for type of music and area preferred to the president.

  • If you want to host a group this summer, please contact the President.
  • June 28, 2015 1:30 to 4:30: At the home of Barbara Aslakson in St. Louis Park. She would like an idea how many are coming. She only has chairs enough for eight. Once she knows what instruments to plan for, each can choose some music for the group.
  • July 21, 2015: Westwood Lutheran Church, 9001 Cedar Lake Rd. Memorial Service for Barbara Aslakson’s mother. Susan Lindvall is leading and will choose music based on who can play that day.
  • A TCRG group performance is being planned for later. We will keep you informed.
  • Jean Allison Olson hosts a Monday afternoon group that will run through the summer based on her availability. Call her at 651-644-8545.
