Minnesota Recorder Teachers & Schools

Twin Cities Area Teachers

Jean Allison Olson teaches recorder to children and adults at St. Paul Conservatory.  She leads the beginners and those with a crisis in confidence at recorder guild meetings and is the proprietor of Honeysuckle Music, local source of recorders and sheet music.   651.644.8545 / jean@honeysucklemusic.com

Lionel Davis teaches recorder and piano to adults and children; he has been teaching recorder for 35 years.  Lessons are held at the Jewish Community Center in St. Paul (651-698-0751) and at his home studio in Minneapolis.  612-825-4362 

Cléa Galhano teaches recorder at MacPhail Center for the Arts, Macalaster College, and the St. Paul Conservatory.  She also teaches and performs at early music workshops in the USA and Brazil, performs as a solo and chamber musician across the USA, South America, and Europe, and served on the board of the American Recorder Society.   She studied in Brazil, at the Royal Conservatory (The Hague), and at the New England Conservatory of Music (Boston).  Her recordings include "Magic Circle" with guitarist Tony Hauser (Distribution of Flowers SC 110), Folias Festivas with Belladonna (Dorian), and "Songs in the Ground" with harpsichordist Vivian Montgomery (Ten Thousand Lakes SC 114). Rachel Hest teaches recorder to students as young as first grade, and as old as they come!  She has 16 years of experience as a recorder teacher (and as a flute and piano instructor).   Lessons are held at Olivet Congregational Church, 1850 Iglehart Ave., in St. Paul.  Rachel performs with Lyra Concert Baroque Orchestra and serves as their Operations Manager.   612-721-2034 / rachelhest@aol.com

Paul Jacobson accepts recorder students from intermediate to advanced levels and students of Baroque flute from beginning to advanced levels.  He is principal flutist and cofounder of the Lyra Concert Baroque Orchestra, and also serves as principal flutist for The WolfGang, Ensemble 392, and Milwaukee Baroque.  He has been a featured soloist in numerous locations in the U.S.  Known nationally as a proponent for early music, Paul has been an NFA and UMFA board member, chairperson of the Historical Flutes Committee, and is currently vice-president of the board of directors for Early Music America.  His teachers include Martha Bixler, Steven Silverstein, Sandra Miller, Robert Willoughby, Chris Krueger, and Wilbert Hazelzet.   651-221-0937 / pjacobso@qwest.net
